Richard launched the largest independent food-service management company in the U.S., serving more than 350 of the Fortune 500 companies. The company also provided dietary services to hospitals, nursing homes, schools, and colleges, and later expanded to provide restaurants in multi-tenant office buildings. He also spearheaded the only privately held mass-transit management organization. In 1993, he established an association with Starbucks that led to an exclusive East Coast distributorship.
Richard has more than 45 years of involvement with YPO and has held leadership roles in NAMA.
My Story
Richard doesn’t just follow trends; he sets them. He was among the first to establish vending machines that accepted credit cards. He was commissioned by the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare to create an entire category of low-calorie vending snacks. As special counsel to the Mayor of Philadelphia, he also helped revamp portions of the Philadelphia Police Department.
A catalyst for innovation, Richard inspired the concept behind the television show Shark Tank while supporting entrepreneurs seeking advancement through an organization called Tech Coast Angels.
Today, as Chairman of the Private Investors Forum and a member of New World Angels, he continues to pioneer new possibilities.
Richard fosters trust-based consulting and brings fresh ideas to the table through open dialogue. One example is his ability to establish federations of independent business operators for educational purposes across various fields and locations around the world. This process allows independent companies in similar industries to learn from one another and gain valuable insights in a noncompetitive environment.
Whether brokering business deals through acquisitions or divestitures or crafting unique strategies, Richard’s casual yet incisive approach helps propel his clients forward.
